Trea Turner Wanted To Piss Off Max Scherzer, So He Challenged The Very First Pitch Of A Spring Training Game
Last week after his first start as a Blue Jay Max Scherzer asked "can we just be judged by humans?" when he was asked about the new ABS challenge system put in place for spring training. Safe to say that Mad Max isn't a fan of the robots telling us what is and isn't a strike. He's an old school kind of guy who just wanted to stand on that mound and throw fastballs right by your lips and get you out, so I get why he wouldn't like the challenge system. I'm sure he was hoping for an ABS free appearance on Sunday when Scherzer faced the Phillies but Trea Turner made sure that wouldn't happen.
First at-bat of the game, first pitch of the game. It's clearly a strike, but Trea Turner immediately tapped his head and wanted the umpires to take another look, or did he? Nope, he didn't really want them to take another look and see if it was a ball or not, he just wanted to fuck with his old friend and teammate. Look at the shit eating grin on Turner's face as starred out at Max.
He knew what he was doing, a little playful gesture between these guys. Turner with a smile a mile wide as Max stands up on that mound waiting for the umpires to confirm it was a strike. Couldn't have been more of a strike, but Turner knew that. I mean Trea didn't even wait for the ball to get in the catchers mitt before he challenged it, he was doing it right away. Funny moment here for these guys, and we even saw the super rare Max Scherzer smile too!

You don't see that, almost never. Max Scherzer just doesn't smile when he's on a baseball diamond. Unless his good friend is in the box and pulling a prank on him. Funny moment from a light hearted spring game between buddies, you love to see the guys having fun. Not many guys go out of their way to piss off Max Scherzer and push his buttons, Trea is one of them.
