'I'm Not Going To Give You Coach Speak' - Jeff Capel Finally Says What Everyone Else Knows, ACC Basketball Sucks Right Now

There's a problem we have to talk about. It's been happening for a couple years now, but this year is by far the worst. The ACC sucks at basketball. Jeff Capel agrees, everyone agrees. This is a conference that many of us grew up with as the dominant conference. It was the ACC or the Big East, pick your conference and you were in for a good game. Nearly every game was must watch, teams were dominant besides Duke and Carolina. You had Wake with their run of Rodney Rodgers, Tim Duncan, Randolph Childress, Chris Paul, Justin Gray, Josh Howard. You had NC State with Julius Hodge. You had Maryland in the ACC with Joe Smith. FSU and Clemson were around. You get the point. The ACC was awesome.

This year? It's turned into the old WCC. You have the dominant team. Duke is running through the ACC like Gonzaga ran through the WCC. You have some garbage teams like Miami, Boston College, Syracuse, NC State. Games are mostly unwatchable for the most part, especially in the standalone Monday spot.

Good news though, they are running it back!

I'm also starting to think this was from Capel too:

I don't really understand how you bring back every single coach listed there. Things aren't good. I don't care if Clemson makes a run in the NCAA Tournament, that doesn't change the narrative on what the conference is right now. The ACC is going to get 3, maybe 4, teams in the NCAA Tournament. That's not the ACC we know. Hell, just look at the ACC Tournament. In the 90s and 2000s it was again right there with the Big East Tournament. People cared about it. I haven't heard one person excited to watch the ACC Tournament this year.

Some of it is the fact coaches retired. They once had Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, K, Mike Brey, coaches that were staples in the sport. You're already replacing Tony Bennett, Jim Larranaga and Leonard Hamilton this year. Two of which were going to retire any year and then Tony Bennett quitting out of nowhere. Realignment has hurt this league too. Cal, Stanford, SMU aren't moving the needle and you lost the Maryland rivalries. Good on Capel though for not hiding from it. This league sucks right now.
