That Patrick Kane Is So Hot Right Now

It's been getting lost in the shuffle here considering 39-year-old Alexander Ovechkin is about to break Wayne Gretzky's scoring record, and 37-year-old Sidney Crosby is about to break Wayne Gretzky's record for most career point-per-game seasons. The 1st overall pick in the 2004 NHL Draft is still scoring at an alarming rate. The 1st overall pick in the 2005 NHL Draft is still producing at an alarming rate.

But let's not forget about the 1st pick in the 2007 NHL Draft either. Because ever since the calendar flipped to 2025, 36-year-old Patrick Kane has been an absolute monster. 31 points in his last 25 games, including FIVE last night against his hometown Sabres.

2 goals and 3 assists last night while the Red Wings dick slapped Buffalo. And all he had to do was just drop his gloves to the ice during this melee to pick up what I'm assuming would be his first career Gordie Howe Hat Trick.

Somehow between all 10 skaters on the ice right there, Patrick Kane was the only one to come away from this without a penalty. What a goddamn gentleman.

12 goals and 19 assists over these last 25 games. Now it's not like the Red Wings have totally taken advantage of getting some vintage Showtime. They've had a 6-game win streak during this stretch, but also a 6-game losing streak. They're still 2 points out of a playoff spot with about 7 teams all realistically fighting for those 2 wild card spots in the East.

The Red Wings went on one of the greatest runs in NHL history after making the playoffs in 25 consecutive seasons from 1991-2016. They won 4 Cups during that stretch. It also just so happens that Patrick Kane personally won 3 Cups during that stretch of time as well. But the Red Wings haven't made it back to the playoffs since that streak ended. If anybody is able to bring Hockeytown back to life, it's old man Showtime. That's been the Yzerplan all along.
