Video: Good Ol' Fashioned St. Patrick's Day Freakout at The Dublin Airport

Irish Times - Gardaí have arrested and charged a man after a disturbance on Monday morning at Dublin Airport which resulted in criminal damage to a departure gate area. Electronic equipment was ripped from a desk used by airline staff while other mobile infrastructure at the desk was damaged.

A man was detained at the scene by Airport Police personnel before being taken into Garda custody for questioning. It appears the man involved, in is in his 20s, had arrived on a flight into Dublin intoxicated.

He then missed a connecting flight and created a disturbance, and allegedly caused significant damage, at the unstaffed departure gate before he was overpowered. He was seen by passers-by engaging in the attack before the alarm was raised and he was overpowered by Airport Police.

It is understood that the man threw chairs around the departure gate in Terminal 1 and also took furniture from a nearby café during the incident early on St Patrick’s Day. Damage was also caused to infrastructure for checking bag size at the departure gate.

In this guy's defense... it is St. Patrick's Day. I have a hard time begrudging a man for getting belligerently drunk and destroying the contents of Gate 107 on St. Patrick's Day... In the Dublin airport no less. If there's any place on earth, at any time of year that should be catering to the needs of overly intoxicated, exceedingly angry Irish men, it's the Dublin airport on March 17th. They really couldn't keep the gate open for an extra 5... maybe 10... maybe 60 minutes so that piss drunk passengers could stop at the airport bar and take a half-dozen shots of Jameson between connecting flights? Is that too much to ask on a national holiday?

Also... on this guy's behalf... he's lookin pretty jacked, right? He might be the strongest lad in the airport. He was ripping those wires and drawers out of the Gate 107 kiosk like they were nothing. Did you see how far he threw that... thing? Pretty darn far. He really did a number on that gate. And I don't know exactly what the situation was, but if it were one of those time where he showed up at the gate 30 seconds late. Where he watched the door close in his face. Then some asshole at the desk told him, "Sorry fella, there's nothing I can do", as the plane sits stationary outside the window for the next 15 minutes. I would want to start throwing shit too. I wouldn't actually do it. Because I'm a civilized human being, and not a lunatic psychopath who under any circumstances whatsoever would take off my shirt, flex for the camera, and go on an airport destroying rampage. But I would probably fantasize about it for a minute.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to that guy. I'm sure he didn't wake up today thinking he would be hauled off to jail by airport police. I'm sure he had other plans. But once he missed his flight, and realized his original plans were no longer it he cards... well at least he made his day memorable. Some day I'm sure he'll look back on St. Paddy's day 2025 and have a good craic about it. Or maybe today is just the start of a long series of destructive decisions. Maybe it's all downhill from here. Who knows. Fun video though. I'd love to witness an airport meltdown like this in person. I've been flying Spirit my entire life and have still never come close to having anything like this happen. Idk what else I can do. Maybe someday...
