BREAKING NEWS: The Indiana Hoosiers Have Found The Man Who Will Save Their Program - Darian DeVries
I'm not going to act like this was my first choice as the new head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, but the more I look into Coach DeVries the more I love this option. There was zero chance Indiana was going to hire a guy with whatever baggage Chris Beard had, so I wasn't holding my breath. I was ready to settle for Ben McCollum, but when you can't get the current coach of the Drake Bulldogs, why not get the former Drake Coach? From all the tweets I'm seeing it seems like Indiana has finally got themselves an X's and O's head coach.
I don't care if this isn't the biggest splash hire, 20 win seasons sound incredible. Rattle off those and a chance to win in March. Sign me up. Indiana basketball has their version of Curt Cignetti. Doesn't matter where DeVries is at, he is bringing a winning culture. That's what Indiana fans have been missing the last few decades. A coach that is going to bring in their system, preach defense, and not solely rely bringing in talent. You hear critics telling Indiana fans to let go of the Bob Knight years, while Indiana expectations are high (top 3 NIL program), Indiana fans are starved for GOOD basketball. Hoosiers have missed the tournament 7/9 years and underperformed even with multiple NBA lottery players. DeVries turned WVU around in the first season while missing his best player (his son and future Hoosier) and had them ranked 15th in defense in the NCAA. THAT should get Indiana fans very excited. I'm about to go from 6 to midnight.
What a shitty week to be a fan of West Virginia basketball, blow after blow. The Hoosiers were down bad after missing the tournament, but it seems like Indiana has finally got a head coach that will develop talent and simply win. I'm not ready to declare Indiana basketball back, but I can't wait to be watching this team in the tournament next March.
