The Only Thing UNC ‘Proved’ Last Night Is That We Need To Shrink The Tournament Back To 64 Teams
We know what happened last night, it was the most predictable thing to happen last night. UNC beat the everliving shit out of San Diego State and every UNC fan is running their mouths. Now, me? I would say it's embarrassing and Dean Smith would be living if you're a blue blood celebrating on Franklin Street for a Tuesday First Four win over a Mountain West team. But I won't say that. I will say this, because this is what I saw and it pissed me off:
People love to act like one result in the NCAA Tournament is justification for a 30-game regular season. It's not. No one said FDU or UMBC didn't deserve 16 seeds because they won. I didn't hear one word of that when FDU won a First Four game. Same goes for UConn winning the title as a 4 seed a couple years ago. There wasn't a single person screaming and throwing a fit about it. Because tournament results don't mean the seeding was right or inclusion into the Tournament is right. I still think it's dumb that UNC got in. It's impossible to think otherwise when 111 people whose job it is to mimic the committee had WVU in and they became the first school to ever not make it with that.
But back to this tweet from Seth Davis. Look, I'm not a Seth Davis fan. He's a shill for the NCAA and frankly I just think he's wrong on about every single thing he says. The last thing we saw last night was a cause for expansion. In fact it's making me think the other way. Go back to 64. I say this as someone who likes the First Four. I like having a few games to wet the beak before Thursday. The 16 seeds deliver, they get money for the win, all that. But UNC beating the shit out of SDSU means no one is deserving of these bids.
So congrats to UNC on winning the most important game its played in apparently. You would think that based on their fans reaction. AD's still shouldn't be the selection committee, UNC didn't deserve to get in because of this win and another big Quad 2 win for the boys.
