Will Smith Is Rapping Again, Made A Whole Song In One Take Live On A Stream, And Is Dropping His First Rap Album In 20 Years On March 28th
So much of rap is coming up with creative ways to rhyme about how hard of a person you are, how successful you are in life, how much money you have, how long & wide your penis is, etc. Obviously how good the song is matters too. But so much of the rap game, especially lyrically, is a dick measuring contest. Because of that, I always get a kick out of Will Smith getting back in the booth. Rappers are always flexing their expensive jewelry and cars, boasting about the number of zeros in their bank account. Which in comparison to the average person, is usually pretty impressive. I'm man enough to admit that BigXthaPlug is living "the life of a boss" more so than I am. But when Will Smith gets in the studio and starts rattling off his accomplishments... well I'm sorry BigXthaPlug... but when Will Smith raps, it sorta makes you look like the brokest bitch who's ever lived. Unfortunately, you're much closer to Barstool Sports blogger status than you are to the likes of Will Smith.
The Will Smith rap that went viral last night was solid. But the one he randomly dropped 6 years ago... I thought that was great. It was kind of a hilarious reminder of how A-list actor Will Smith, who hasn't put any real effort towards rapping in god knows how long, who basically just raps for fun when he's bored, is still better at it than (or at least on par with) a whole lot of modern day rappers who are actively dedicating their lives to the craft.
Will Smith. Talented guy. Lots of money. Sometimes people forget that. He had a bit of a rough stretch there when everyone learned his wife was having sex with this guy.
The saga that of course culminated in Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on stage at the Oscar's.
Will Smith was kind of a running joke there for a minute. His reputation still hasn't, and will probably never fully recover from the Chris Rock slapping incident. But he's still a talented dude. I'm not sure if this move by Will Smith is an extension of a 5-year long mid-life crisis, or if it's just Will Smith getting back to doing what he loves. It's probably a mixture of both. But for the first time in 20 years, Will Smith is dropping a new rap album.
I'm not sure what exactly what to expect from it. Good to see DJ Jazzy Jeff is still alive and kickin'. I really liked the rap Will Smith dropped out of nowhere 6 years ago. The one that went viral last night was pretty solid as well. I'm assuming his album will feature songs of that ilk. As opposed to the much funnier option, which would be for Will Smith to drop yet another album of 90's-style family friendly rap songs.
But I want Will Smith's album to be good. I would like to be able to say, "Damn.. Will Smith has still got it. He's got more talent in his pinky finger than all these new-age rappers combined." It's time for society to build Will Smith back up. 'Will Smith the slapping cuck' was fun for a few years, but I'm ready for the comeback. And what better way for him to win back the hearts and minds of America than by… rapping good. Sure, why not. I think he's got it in him. He must have enough money/sense to make sure the rap album he's dropping doesn't completely suck. Honestly, all Will Smith needs to do is call Drake a pedophile one time and he'll have a #1 hit on his hands. That's the formula. If he does that he'll probably perform at the Super Bowl next year.
