We Need More Coaches Like Will Wade - Openly Talking About How His Plan Is To Leave McNeese After This Year, Bring His Players To A Power Conference With Him
There was a time, just a few years ago, where Will Wade was untouchable. It was all because of that FBI investigation which is now known as NIL. I know, crazy idea that players were receiving money before the last couple of years. Will Wade was the only person to think of this idea and have it happen. But he was untouchable because the NCAA destroyed coaches who got caught doing such a thing. That was until McNeese took a shot on him. It was something that made sense for both parties. If you're McNeese and you have a chance at a guy who is a really good coach, even for a couple of years, you do it. Why? Because of this:
Your school is now being talked about across the country. You're making a ton of money because of the unit won from advancing in the Tournament. You now have the ability to say you won a real Tournament game. Those all matter whether Will Wade is there or not. I have no idea where he got these numbers from or how true it is, but it is true that a big win or a run does help like this
But you don't get that - at least probably - without Will Wade. The dude came in, brought in a ton of former high-major transfers and dominated the Southland the last two seasons. Because of that and the fact NIL is legal, this is out there:
That's a perfect hire for NC State. The ACC is down, you have a bunch of coaching turnover and you got arguably the best one in the carousel this season. You beat Texas, who should have been all over Will Wade (assuming he signs the deal with NC State once the season ends). But it's not just that, it's the fact he's openly talking about it. The fact he had this plan and talked to his staff, administration and players about it. He can bring players with him, we saw them kick a top-3 team in the ACC's ass yesterday. If they don't follow him, they could get money to go somewhere else. He says as much, which is refreshing in this world where a lot of coaches are speaking out against it. He used McNeese to get back in the sport, get the NC State job, like anyone would. Players are doing the same.
