On A Scale Of 1-10, Rate How Horrific This Call Was In Penn State vs Ohio State Lacrosse Game
Every once in a while, we have to stop and just remind ourselves of how lucky we are to be lacrosse fans in the age of so many technological advancements. There was a time when you'd be lucky to watch 3-4 games all season long before the Final Four on Memorial Day Weekend. Now we get furious because the stream for Quinnipiac and Canisius takes a little too long to buffer. No offense Quinnipiac and Canisius.
The point I'm trying to make is that we've gotten spoiled with technology as lacrosse fans. We are able to watch so many more games, and see so many more replays and highlights than ever before. Every once in a while, the sport has to remind the fans what it was like 30 years ago.
Which is exactly what happened in Penn State vs Ohio State last night, because the video replay technology must be from the 90's if they still came away with a call of "no goal" on this play.
I've been seeing some people say things like "well maybe the feed the refs are looking at isn't the same feed they have on the broadcast, so the goal wasn't as clear".
To that, my two main replies would be 1) well why the fuck don't the refs have better footage to look at? And 2) how does nobody just take their phone out of their pocket, pull up the livestream on Big Ten Network, and show the refs how the ball is clearly a full foot inside the net?

Everybody in that stadium has a streaming platform app on their phone. Any one of them could have easily pulled up this replay and see the ball was clearly in the net. Somehow whatever footage they were giving the refs on the replay iPad must have been shot with a Motorola Razr.
It just seems like what is the point of having coach's challenges and video replay in college lacrosse if you still can't even get the right call made on the field? Whether it's the refs just being as incompetent as it gets, or if there's actually a flaw in the technology being used, it doesn't matter. Quite literally everyone on the planet saw that ball go in the net last night, and even after video review it was still called no goal. Seems like we're just wasting money on iPads to hand to refs during the reviews at this point. Put that money towards a few extra sandwiches for the post game tailgate or something.
P.S. -- Not the first time that head ref Matty Palumb has completely fucked Penn State with an awful call.
