'The Mummy' Is BACK And Has It's Lead Actor
EXCLUSIVE: Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has cast Jack Reynor as the Atomic Monster/Blumhouse production for New Line is set to begin filming in Ireland and Spain. Cronin’s Doppelgängers banner is also producing. I’m told Reynor is not getting wrapped up in the title role.
The film, which is still keeping its logline under wraps (get it, see how we used that there), is written and directed by Cronin, and marks the first collaboration for the recently combined companies, helmed by James Wan and Jason Blum, with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group. Pic will be released on April 17, 2026.
To be very clear, this is not a remake or reboot of the beloved Brendan Fraser movie. This is a separate take on the character, different studio.
The Mummy is an interesting property. Theoretically, it really shouldn't work. A zombie wrapped up in bandages shouldn't move the needle! However, I have a lot of faith in Blumhouse in making this work as a horror vs action-adventure like the Fraser movies. They already tackled a different universal monster in 'The Invisible Man', which was awesome, and 'Wolf Man' which was pretty bad. I'm obviously assuming this will be closer to the former.
Lee Cronin previously directed 'Evil Dead Rise' which was really solid and gave a breath of fresh life in an old franchise. Can he do that again? I think so! As far as Jack Reynor goes, I don't have a ton to go on with him outside of a really good performance in 'Midsommar'. I assume he is going to play our non-mummy lead and he's got a good look for it.
