Chase Dollander Found Out He Was Being Called Up to the Big Leagues From a Hotel Confirmation Text
Everybody loves a good call-up video. It's awesome to see someone be told their dream is coming true and after decades of work, they're going to get a chance to play Major League Baseball. Chase Dollander, though, didn't really need to be told he was heading to the big club, because he had already received a text message confirming his hotel reservation in Denver.
I don't think this is actually a big deal or anything, but there is a joke in there somewhere about the Rockies even fucking up their own prospects' call-ups. At least Dollander's text was for a happier occasion than former Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez finding out he was canned by getting an e-mail from Delta confirming his flight back to Atlanta when the team was in Pittsburgh for three more days.
I'm excited to watch Dollander pitch in the big leagues, though. It sucks he has to pitch at Coors Field, but he's a demon and I fully expect him to be in contention for Rookie of the Year by season's end. The other first round pitcher taken out of the University of Tennessee during Tony Vitello's tenure is Garrett Crochet and I think everyone in Denver would sign up for anything remotely close to the start of Crochet's career from Dollander.
