Three Collapses, Three Historically Close Games - The Final Four Absolutely Delivered, Saved The Tournament From Being The Worst One We've Had
I think everyone agreed the first couple rounds of the Tournament sucked. I don't care about Cinderella as much as I just want good games and moments. We barely had any. In fact it was some of the biggest blowouts we've ever seen:
People wanted to declare the sport dead because of it. In reality it was one of the most top heavy seasons we've had in the sport. It's too early to just say because of NIL/transfer portal, last year was not the case. However, what we did keep saying was if we got these teams in the Final Four it would all be worth it. We kept pushing it down the road until it finally got here.
It delivered.
We had three collapses. We had moments from every single game. It was a historically close Final Four. It's what happens when you get the four best teams in the Final Four, which is rare. It's the one beauty of not having a Cinderella team there because that tends to be the blowout. I'm sure I'm a bit in the minority but give me the best teams playing close games over a Cinderella run to the Final Four. Actually, it's the majority based on this:
It's the one thing that comes to the Tournament. You get the mayhem early on, multiple games going on at a time and people all pumped up for 14 hours of games. You hope to see some upsets. But it's the standalone games that people remember the most. You'll have people talking about the Final Four collapses more than McNeese and Colorado State winning games.
As for the NIL/transfer portal argument, let's see what happens next year. If it's another one with no upsets and blowouts all early then sure, we can have that talk. Just keep giving us elite Final Fours, it's really the best thing for the sport.
