Ryan Gosling Came Out On Stage To Confirm He's Officially Starring In A New Star Wars Film Called 'Starfighter'
Until seeing Ryan Gosling step out on stage, I would have said there was about a 50/50 shot this movie actually got made. Now that all the big players have trotted out at Star Wars celebration for all to see? With a production date set for this fall? I think it may actually be happening. As far as details go, didn't give us much outside of the title and the fact that this will be a standalone movie set a few years after 'Rise of Skywalker'. To me, that's a win. Gosling as a lovable rogue will work every time for me. Imagine his character from 'The Nice Guys' mixed with Han Solo. At least, that is what I'm picturing and it's fantastic.
I'll reiterate my keys to success to this project (and every star wars movie) from previous blogs:
1. Stick to practical as much as possible. Fans of this franchise like the puppets. We like on-location shooting. We like costumes, goofy voices, miniatures etc. It does not hurt our suspension of disbelief at all! Obviously you need CGI in moments but the more you limit that, the better off you are.
2. Limit the number of characters. One of the great aspects of the original trilogy is that you could zero in on the trio of Luke, Leia and Han and enjoy their development as characters. In The sequel trilogy, there was just no chemistry between the Rey, Poe and Finn trio and they really weren't given any time on screen together to develop any. On top of that, there were just a trillion new characters introduced every movie that nobody gave a shit about. Like Mel Gibson said, aim small, miss small.
