Katt Williams Appreciation Blog: Katt Williams Had a Street Named After Him and Was Given a Key to The City in His Hometown Cincinnati Neighborhood

It's only fitting that a Katt Williams video like this pops up on my timeline today. I was just thinking about Katt Williams this past weekend. A random Twitter account (who I source more blog topics from than I'd care to admit) tweeted out a comedy Mount Rushmore. They went with Bernie Mac, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chapelle, Richard Pryor. I'm not sure if it was specifically supposed to be a Mount Rushmore of black comedians, but I'm not sure it would have made a difference anyways. At least it wouldn't for me. Because the real stand-up comedy Mount Rushmore looks like this.

Clearly I'm exaggerating a bit. Two of those heads should be Steve Harvey. But pound-for-pound, I think Katt Williams is hands down the most underrated comedian of all-time. Comedian Nick Mullen once described Katt Williams stand-up in a way that's always stuck with me. He said that Katt Williams does comedy at the absolute highest level of difficultly. That if 99.99% of professional comedians took the stage in front of a Katt Williams crowd, they would turn around and walk out. Because that's a room where comedy is not possible. It's a rap concert. The fans are there for a party. You can't control that. You can't make people shut up and listen in that environment. But Katt Williams thrives in it. He commands the audience's attention. He use the whole ass stage. He pours sweat out of every orifice on his body. He'll have a sold out theatre of screaming fans crying laughing for 90 straight minutes. And Katt Williams entertainment value goes so far beyond just his stand-up routine. I don't think anybody has as high of a hit rate on being thoroughly entertaining and hilarious every time he does... literally anything.

Whether it's prepared material at a comedy show...

Eviscerating a heckler to the point that the audience breaks out in an improptu Star-Spangled Banner…

Making appearances on podcasts where he's bizarrely right about fucking everything…

Roasting a radio host so hard her husband pulls a gun on him…

Fighting Target employees…

Fighting Pool Supply Store employees…

Fighting Atlanta restaurant employees (i.e. firing a salt shaker at a manager's face so hard it sent him to the hospital, because the manager had the nerve to tell Katt Williams he had to wait for a table)…

Fighting middle school students…

Or running a 40-yard dash on a 94 foot long basketball court…

When you see Katt Williams name in a headline, you know you're in for some shit. His job is to entertain, and he always delivers. But for some reason, you don't often see him mentioned with the greats. Maybe it's the many, many arrests. Maybe it's his willingness to call out any person of any status at any given time. But up until recently, where it people seems like people are finally starting to put a little more respect on his name, for some reason his name was used more as a punchline than anything. But that was never fair. Even at his worst, no comedian commands a stage like Katt Williams. He will consistently crush in a theatre full of rowdy fans. Whether it's with his prepared material, or ranting off the cuff about whatever the hell is on his mind. The man is a legend. He absolutely deserves a key to the city (i.e neighborhood of Avondale), and a street named after him in his hometown of Cincinnati. They should name al their streets after him. He's that god damn funny.

And by all accounts, from people in the industry, he's an awesome guy. He's done so much for other comedians. So much for people in general. There are so many stories that speak to how charitable of a person Katt Williams is.

Here are two posts from comedians you've probably never heard of. Rico found these and put them in a blog he wrote about Katt Williams last year.

I'm glad people finally are starting to recognize how great of a comedian, and how great of a guy Katt Williams is. Or at least can be. Obviously he's made his fair share of mistakes. Not a lot of people can say they've been banned from multiple counties in Georgia.

But overall, it seems like he means well. And there's a lot of people who are better off for knowing him. Not a lot of people in Katt Williams position can say that either.
