'I'm Not A Wholesale-Type Dude' - Davante Adams Claims The 49ers Low-Balled Him On A Deal, Picked The Rams To Get Away From Dysfunction

[Source] - “I was entertaining the Niners,” Adams said, “but they were like, ‘We’re paying wholesale. We ain’t paying retail.’ I didn’t talk to them, but that’s what my agent told me — like five times, that quote. And I was like, ‘OK, well, I’m not a wholesale-type dude.’”

This is really the first week after the Super Bowl ends where the NFL comes back into my mind. It's obviously Draft week, but college basketball is over and NFL headlines start to stick out more. A very small part of me forgot that Davante Adams is on the Rams now. It sounds right, but also something that I completely forgot about for a second. It's no secret that he wanted to get back to the West coast, he admitted as much in the interview.

But, what I do find intriguing is the deal with the 49ers. The fact he openly called them out for low-balling him, not exactly shocking, considering the money they have tied up and how they are navigating the Brock Purdy situation:

It's great when you can pay a quarterback next to nothing and give out money elsewhere. I don't blame Davante Adams, much like I'll never blame anyone for getting more money. It's just hilarious how he sounds exactly like a damn good wide receiver here. You ask them and they are always open, need the ball more, all that stuff from this viral tweet.

Plus, it feels right for a wide receiver to want to play for McVay just like a running back should want to play for Shanahan. You're set up for success. Speaking of which, Adams also talked about the dysfunction:

“Well, first I’ve got to make sure it’s not me,” Adams said, smiling for effect, during an interview Friday in his hometown. “So, we’re going to get over there and see. If it gets dysfunctional, it means that I was the one making those organizations dysfunctional.”

Then, his expression turning serious, Adams added: “This is like true optimism versus just hoping. Obviously, knowing what I know about the management there, the players, the team success they’ve had in recent years and just over time … those are usually the type of teams that have stressed success. The most important thing was (joining) a good, winning team.”

Uhh ya think? Gonna give Davante Adams the benefit of the doubt here and say he's not the reason why the Raiders and Jets are dysfunctional. Gonna go ahead and say that's just the Raiders and Jets. They are two of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports and have been that way forever.
