Gotta Take The Chance - Toronto Argonauts Now Have The Exclusive Rights To Negotiate With Shedeur Sanders If He Wants To Play In The CFL Instead

Obviously this likely isn't going to happen, but this is how you plan for the future. You never know what's going to happen with a Browns quarterback and that's what Shedeur Sanders is right now. But if he doesn't want to be, or if he wants to get away from the NFL, he can follow up Chad Kelly in Toronto. I should note this isn't uncommon, CFL teams will do this with late round picks/undrafted guys all the time. This just so happens to be Shedeur Sanders though.

[Source] - “CFL by-laws state that teams can claim exclusive rights for up to 45 players by placing them on their negotiation lists,” the league’s official website states. “Players can be added, removed or traded from the lists at any time.”

I think we should see more of this in sports. NBA Draft happens and a guy doesn't get drafted, leagues across the world can call dibs on them to negotiate. Might as well throw your name out there, you never know what'll happen. It's like the Globetrotters drafting Mark Titus. You do it for the name, you never know if Mark Titus is going to show up to practice. Trying to think what other football league should do something like this or what name would draw attention. The UFL, maybe? Just treat it like the G League and bring a guy in on a two-way contract.

Obviously this is only getting traction because it's Shedeur. Again, he's not going to go play in the CFL. But, it's worth putting it out there just to be safe. Plus the transition from Chad Kelly to Shedeur Sanders would be fantastic for content. Gotta hand it to Toronto and the CFL here. This is smart marketing. Every single person is talking about Shedeur Sanders right now. Could be defending him, talking about the fall, how he'll still be a star, whatever it might be and here comes the Argonauts with the negotiation list.
