A Tale As Old As Time … The Lines For The Bars Were Absolutely Bananas On MDW
MDW … the start of summer. Even if it’s 55 degrees and windy at 8pm like it was last night, the summer is here and young bucks up and down the shore line are moving into their shore houses for 15 weekends of drinking, tanning, laughs, debauchery, regrets, drinking and the inevitable noise complaint. It’s a rite of passage. Little bit of money in your pocket .. blow it on the weekends. Who needs a savings when you can order 27 grails for the crew like a boss?
If you ask me Memorial Day Weekend is the worst of the three holiday weekends. 4th of July is undebatable #1, and because of college football I’ll take LDW. Also MDW is always cold and very much overcrowded. Speaking of which … while MDW kicks off summer, it 100% has its downside. The biggest of which is the lines for the bars.
Now listen, I know a ton of people are asking “how on earth could you possibly waste valuable time of your weekend waiting hours in line for a bar?” and that is 100% a good question. But the problem is they got you by the balls down there in these towns. Conventional wisdom says stay in your house and have a great time with your friends. The problem there is anytime after 8pm you are BEGGING for a noise complaint from the cops in the town who have been instructed by the towns politicians to bang out as many violations as they can in a 3 month span. It’s not the cops fault by any means they are a cog in the system. I guess it’s also not the politicians fault because the kids may make up the population for busy season but the year long residents are the ones you have to cater to and if they complain about kids being savages the crack downs will come. So what do these kids have as a choice? Go wait in line at the bar all night or get there as early as possible and post up all day and spend every dollar they have.
A tradition like no other. Don’t worry, the lines next week won’t be that bad and will stay that way til 4th of July when they once again will be miles long.
