Move Over Philadelphia, We Might Have a New Meanest Fan Base in Professional Sports

Philly had a hell of a run. For the longest time, if there was one professional sports city you didn't want to go to as an opposing fan (or player), it was Philadelphia. They threw snowballs at Santa Claus. They beat up Chief Zee. They cheered Michael Irvin's career ending injury. They once pelted an old lupus riddled Steelers fan with batteries. She was wearing an "I have lupus" sign and everything.

But as much as I hate to say it, Philly fans have gone soft in recent years. When Phillies shortstop Trae Turner was struggling at the plate, instead of hurling insults and threatening the lives of his family, they supported him with cheering. Philly was so proud of themselves for not booing a player out of town they made a documentary about it.

But there's a new fan base who has burst onto the scene, and they're doing everything they can to earn the crown of most, "Do not go to a game there in an opposing jersey under any circumstances" team in all of American sports. San Diego FC is only in their first year as an MLS franchise. They've only played a total of 8 games at their home Snapdragon Stadium. But they are beating the shit out of everyone.

And that was only on Saturday vs the LA Galaxy. When Los Angeles' other FC came to town (Los Angeles FC) back in March, San Diego fans sent them home with a brawl of equal proportions just outside the stadium.

I'm just saying, if you put a gun to my head right now, and I had to choose between attending a Philadelphia Eagles game wearing a Cowboys jersey, or a San Diego FC game wearing a Los Angeles based soccer kit, I'm taking my chances with the Birds fans. At least when you see videos of fights at Eagles games, it's usually between a few specific people. Usually the opposing fan did something to instigate the fight. At San Diego FC games, I get the sense you could make one wrong turn and suddenly you're in the middle of mosh pit. San Diego FC fan have been so out of control, they legitimately might be on pace to get themselves kicked out the MLS.

Facing strong repercussions for having a culture of violence less than halfway through your inaugural season has to be a record. San Diego FC is batting .250 on games ending in brawls that feature more fans than they have security on staff. I know San Diego FC is still new to the game. They have a long way to go if they want to go down in history as one of the great violent fan bases in all of sports. But in just 8 home games, they're making about as strong of a case as an MLS team could possibly make.

And if anyone can help identify the fat guy who assaulted Vijyii's sister, that would be greatly appreciated.
