New Orleans Prison Escapee Antoine Massey, Who Is Still On The Run, Has Posted A Video Pleading For Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian, And Lil' Wayne To Help Clear His Name
Mediate – A man identifying himself as one of a handful of inmates to escape a New Orleans jail last month took to social media to plead his case to President Donald Trump.
The man identifying himself as Antoine Massey, one of 10 escapees from the Orleans Justice center (OJC) last month, claimed he was “let out” — and showed papers to the camera in a viral video supposedly backing up his story. The men fled the jail through an opening behind a toilet. Graffiti was left near the point of escape that read, “To Easy LoL.”
“They say that I broke out,” he said. “I didn’t break out. I was let out.”
Massey claimed he has a signed affidavit clearing him of an assault charge, alleging the person who accused him of the assault swore previous statements given were false.
Massey has a history of being on the run. According to NOLA.com, Massey, 32, has made multiple escape attempts from detention centers dating back to 2007 when he was a minor.
In the video posted to Instagram, Massey also sought help from rappers like Lil Wayne and Meek Mill when he’s back in “custody.” He denied allegations of threatening a maintenance worker as part of the latest escape. There is a $50,000 reward being offered for information leading to Massey’s arrest.
On Friday, May 16th, in the wee hours of the morning, 10 prisoners walked out of a hole behind a cell toilet and escaped Orleans Parish Justice Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. Since that day, 8 prisoners have been captured and returned to justice, along with 15 friends and family members who allegedly assisted the fugitives since escaping. The two prisoners still on the run are Derrick Groves (4x murder and grandson of a woman who became famous in New Orleans back in 1994 for being murdered by a police officer after she reported him for misconduct), and Antoine Massey (man in the video who's in prison on domestic violence & strangulation charges, who has somehow escaped prison FOUR SEPARATE TIMES in his life).
But we had a fun new development in the manhunt yesterday afternoon when Antoine Massey decided it would be wise to post a video pleading his innocence on Instagram. Here's the full 9:31 video for anyone who is so inclined to hear him out.
I watched the whole thing. In short, he's claiming that the state of Louisiana is trying to put him in prison for life over charges filed against him by a woman named Diamond White. But Diamond White has recanted her accusation, and even went through the process of officially dropping the charges. In the video, he holds up her signed affidavit, along with a form where she states he did not do the things she accused him of. Now he's pleading with Donald Trump, Kim Kardashian, Meek Mill, Lil' Wayne, and NBA Youngboy to help him.
As insane as it is, I kinda love his strategy here. Even if posting this video is what winds up getting Antoine Massey tracked down and caught, at this point, it's probably his best move. His chances of living the rest of his life on the run are all but zero. But right now he has a bigger platform than he'll ever have in his life. For the first time ever, he's able to plead his case to an audience of people who will listen. Whether he's completely full of shit or not, who knows. But I'm sure he's not wrong about the state of Louisiana being corrupt to some extent.
Even if he hadn't escaped jail, according to Massey, he was already facing life. He was probably never going to get a quality lawyer to take his case seriously. This viral plea for help and proclamation of innocence may be a Hail Mary, and pretty sure Donald Trump isn't going to throw him a pardon, but you know there's at least some lawyer out there watching this who wouldn't mind making a name for himself with a high-profile case. If a good lawyer looks into it and finds that even part of what he's saying is true, that would surely serve Antoine Massey better than whatever shitty public defender he had assigned to him by the state.
Of course, that's all contingent on if Antoine Massey is really giving us all the facts. Which an enormous "if". But looking at his situation, if these were the two options...
Option #1: Wait it out in jail while and rely on the state of Louisiana to not throw the book at him when facing a life sentence
Option #2: Escape jail, get another guaranteed 10 years added onto his sentence (or whatever it ends up being), and MAYBE have a chance at getting the attention of someone with the resources to actually fight for him.
If it was me... I might roll the dice with Option #2 as well.
But he also may have just blown any chance he had of getting to trail and having a judge look at that signed from Diamond White saying he didn't do what she accused him of, and deciding to let him off the hook. Or at least let him off the hook to an extent. But again, if I'm Antoine Massey, at the point he was at, I'm not sure I'm taking my chances with the Louisiana justice system either.
He also said something else that I really wish he would have elaborated on, "I'm one of the ones who was let out of New Orleans jail... well they said I escaped right?"
I'm assuming he didn't elaborate on that because it's completely baseless. But for a second there I thought he was about to claim he didn't actually escape, and was let out legally or something? I guess as easy as it was for the escapees to leave through a hole in the wall, and the amount of Orleans Parish Justice Center employees they arrested for aiding and abetting, Antoine Massey more or less was just "let out".
Either way, talk about going out swinging. Antoine Massey really put all his chips in the middle of the table with this "escape prison to go viral and plead innocence" maneuver. And maybe he's got something. It's not like the state of Louisiana being corrupt is some crazy farfetched idea. Not a single person would be shocked to find out that their prison system wasn't on the up and up.
On the other hand, Antoine Massey being completely full of shit and leaving out a ton of important details isn't too crazy of a thought either. He's also facing a vehicle theft charge which he failed to mention in his video. But at bare minimum, this video at least going to get someone to take a look at his case. That's probably more than he would have gotten if he had just rode it out in jail.
