'I Would Probably Take A +4 For The Week' - Players Are Expecting Carnage At Oakmont This Week, Fans Deserve To Watch US Open Mayhem
It's that time of the golf year where everyone starts to hope for the same thing. Carnage. The US Open is made to be tough, it's supposed to be the Tournament where guys are fighting for pars and barely posting an even round. Ben Griffin, who has been damn good the last month or so, is out here saying he'd take a +4 for the week and think he has a chance to win with that. That's awesome.
Why are they expecting this? Look at the rough:
Or the speed of the greens
Or the fact you have a 290 yard par 3
The US Open is supposed to be hard. I know we hear about these guys complaining and want perfect conditions, well, as fans we want carnage. We want to see these guys play like us. Scrambling for a bogey and chopping it out of the rough, just makes you feel a little bit better about your game on Father's Day.
I'm not anti-go low by any means. I just want a mix on the tour. I don't want every major to be -16 or something like that. I want to see guys hit shots that quite frankly I'm used to seeing. A bunker shot that rolls 10 yards off the green? Yep, that's in my wheelhouse. Taking multiple shots to get out of the rough? Sign me up. You should be punished for missing the fairway. I want to see guys have to figure out what to do and have some nervous par putts.
