Former NFL Wide Receiver Jared Bernhardt Is So Back To Being One Of The Nastiest Lacrosse Players In The World
There are plenty of crazy things going on in the world today. You turn on the news and it's just one thing after another that makes you feel like everything in the world has been completely flipped upside down.
But then you turn on ABC on a Sunday afternoon to watch the Denver Outlaws take on the Utah Archers, and suddenly everything in life feels right again. As if balance has been restored to the universe. Because after spending a few years away from the sport of lacrosse, Jared Bernhardt is back and he is just as nasty as ever.
For the uncultured swine out there who are not aware, Jared Bernhardt won the Tewaaraton Award in 2021 as the best player in college lacrosse. He won a national championship with Maryland as a freshman in 2017, and finished his career with 290 points in 76 games. He's a freak athlete. Just an absolute specimen. So he decided to use his extra season of NCAA eligibility to play football at Ferris State. It led to him getting picked up by the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
It was tough to lose one of the best players in the world to the NFL, but it was also a "checkmate" moment for the argument against lacrosse players being world class athletes.
The good news is that lacrosse just leased Jared Bernhardt to football. He went away for a few years to chase his dream of playing in the NFL. He got that over lickety split, and now it's back to pro lacrosse. It would be like if Joe Burrow decided to play a year of pro cricket after college, and now just came back to the NFL and threw for 500 yards and 6 TDs.
4 goals and an assist out of JB1(0). His speed is just on a different level than almost anyone else out on the field. He gets a step any time he wants to. All it was going to take was a couple of weeks to get the scoring touch back. He didn't score in his first pro game 2 weeks ago against the Chaos. He scored his first pro goal last week against the Waterdogs. And now he's back to his regularly scheduled 5-point performances. If there was ever any doubt that Jared Bernhardt would have lost a step or two, he quickly got them back from the lost & found. What a freak.
Sidenote: 14 points yesterday out of the 4 Tewaaraton Award winners for the Denver Outlaws. 5 points from Bernhardt, 4 points from Pat Kavanagh, 3 points from Logan Wisnauskus, and 2 out of Brennan O'Neill. Turns out that having 4 of the best college lacrosse players over the last 5 years is a bit of a cheat code.
