Under No Circumstances Will Kevin Durant Ever Stop Burying Emmanuel Acho For His Horrendous Basketball Takes

It's not exactly a new or hot take to suggest that sports media, especially when discussing the NBA, is a disaster. It doesn't matter who it is or what they might be discussing, the way the sport and the league are talked about on a national level is easily one of the biggest issues Adam Silver and the league office have to deal with. Perhaps it's a recency bias, but it does feel that over the last handful of years it's only gotten worse and worse, where it's more about going viral by saying dumb ass shit instead of giving viewers something of substance. Just look at ESPN's hiring decisions over the last few years, look at all the different talking head shows that continue to pop up, where every day the takes seem to get worse and worse while the actual conversation about basketball is nowhere to be found.
The beauty of living in 2025 though, is that when these brain-numbing takes are made, we live in a world where the athlete they're talking about has a chance to respond and call it out in real time. In the NBA, nobody, and I mean nobody, is better at this than Kevin Durant. He's not only arguably one of the greatest players of our generation, but he's also one of the greatest posters of our generation. Given he has all the free time in the world and is just like the rest of us in the sense that he's always online, it's no surprise that he tends to find himself in these situations.
Today's topic? I apologize for what this might do to your brain…
Ah yes, "Legacy" talk. Who doesn't love that? Coming off the KD trade news, this was about as predictable a topic as you could have seen coming. There's nothing people love more than being weird about the legacy of Kevin Durant. They can't help themselves.
In reality? This makes no fucking sense. So, according to this formula, Jordan's "legacy" trails someone like Steph because MJ played for the Wizards? It's somehow a knock against Kawhi's legacy because he won a ring with 2 different franchises, because he's now been on 3 teams? Same thing with Bron, he gets knocked for winning 3 titles with 3 different franchises? I could make the case that actually makes his legacy even more impressive!
How about Shaq? Or Kareem? Or Wilt? Or Wade? Or KG? See how insane this "formula" is as a way to talk about basketball/players??
Also to the surprise of nobody, was the fact that it didn't take KD to weigh in
To understand this "beef" you have to remember this isn't exactly the first time something like this has happened. Not just the insane takes, but KD getting in the mix. I'm still not sure how to process this stance from about a month ago
and just like that, we're off. Is it any surprise that after getting publicly dragged last month by KD that there now seems to be htis weird "formula" that discredits KD's legacy despite none of it making any goddamn sense?
After LeBron and other players called out how terrible the media is when talking about their sport, all you heard was crying from those very same talking heads. Since then, all they've done is continue to back up exactly what the players have been saying. Stephen A, Cowher, Acho, it's all the same shit.
I'll remind you, this is the same guy who called Tyrese Haliburton selfish for playing hurt in the NBA Finals.
It's all just so weird to me. We have national shows making up fake formulas just to try and discredit one of the best players the NBA has ever seen…..why? Because he calls you out on Twitter? Or is it because they know shit will go viral and the KD haters of the world will eat it up like slop? Why is it so hard not to have weird discussions when it comes to NBA players and their place in history?
Who knows. What we do know is this is pretty much the state of sports media in 2025, and it's definitely not changing anytime soon.
