The Lovely Genie Bouchard Is Officially Retiring From Tennis
Canada's very own Genie Bouchard has announced her retirement from pro tennis, revealing her final tournament will take place in Montreal in the coming weeks. It's a sad moment, but far from surprising as she's really bowed out from the tour over the recent years. I'd say most tennis fans had already thought she hung up her racket, but that doesn't mean we can't give her a swan song though.
Ranked as high as number five in the world and once a Wimbledon finalist, Bouchard was a fun, young, up and coming talent in the sport. She was sadly never able to shake the concussion she suffered after slipping in a locker room at the US Open back in 2015. Her lawsuit stemming from that incident spanned four years before a settlement was reached, but the damage was done. She never regained her top form, which at her peak included challenging the best in the world on any surface. Despite her career getting cut short, she still left a big impression on Canadien tennis, especially for women trying to get into the sport. Genie was awesome when she was at her peak.
Fun fact, she once said on PMT she'd go on a date with me, which I'll definitely take as a win. No need to embarrass myself on said date, just know moving forward it could have happened. Just a free confidence boost I didn't ask for. Happy retirement to Genie, hopefully a storybook run is in store in Montreal.
