Buster Olney Says The Question Is Whether Tarik Skubal Is A Yankee, Met, Or Dodger After Next Season

It's times like these that I wish I could blog under a cartoon character and alias, because Tigers fans are going to see that ol' Ohio Tate is writing about Tarik Skubal again and the reply section will be filled with "Rent Free" comments when in reality, I'm on their side here. I know we've had our differences in the past, but once Lane Thomas put a baseball onto the moon in Game 5 of the ALDS to end the Tigers season, my hatred for Detroit left me faster than that ball left the planet. I won, they lost. I spent all season chirping, they spent all season defending, and the end result could not have been more in my favor. Nothing can ever change that, and it's time for both sides to move on.

….until now. Now I join their side.

How dare Buster Olney come onto Sunday Night Baseball in the middle of Tarik Skubal throwing one of the most dominant no-decisions I've seen in years, only to call the reigning Cy Young winner's next career move a forgone conclusion that he's leaving Detroit. No matter how right he is, why do it? The Tigers are THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL RIGHT NOW. Let them enjoy it! I don't care if Skubal's foot is already out of the (likely beaten and battered) door that is Detroit. Why bring it up 1.5 seasons in advance?

Buster Olney needs to be better than this Yes he's got connections. Yes he has insider knowledge. Yes he knows for a fact that Tarik Skubal is leaving Detroit at the first chance he gets. But why broadcast that now? Let the Tigers fans enjoy this regular season. They haven't won a Division Title in a decade. And right when they're about to do so, Buster Olney comes on the screen and says you can't afford the best player? Disgusting practice. I'm not saying he needs to lie to Tigers fans but why not withhold the truth for at least another season? It can't be all bad news all the time for Detroit.
