The Chargers Are Facing A Potential Class Action Lawsuit Over Their Brazil Game
On Monday, attorney Daniel Wallach passed along a signed but unfiled (for now) class-action complaint against the Chargers over the exportation of a 2025 home game against the Chiefs to Brazil. The lawyer for the plaintiff is Rana Ayazi.
The 14-page document arises from a very simple set of allegations. One, the Chargers marketed season tickets based on a nine-game regular-season slate of home opponents, including the Chiefs. Two, the Chargers sent the Chiefs game to Brazil. Three, the Chargers did not provide a refund to season-ticket holders.
As alleged at paragraph 6 of the complaint, the Chargers “did not offer a refund, credit, or other compensation to Season Ticket Holders” after the Chiefs game exited the mix. As alleged at paragraph eight, the Chargers “would not allow Season Ticket Holders to cancel their tickets for the 2025 season with a refund.” Instead, cancellation would have resulted in the forfeiture of any payments already made for the 2025 season tickets.
What a day for Charger football, baby! Anyone that follows me knows that I was never a fan of these games from the start.
In fact, I am not a fan regardless of which team is participating. I'm an open minded guy but a football xenophobe. I'd go so far as to say that giving away NFL games to the Euros, Brazil, etc. is one of anti-American thing I can think of. This is OUR sport and it is more than clear that the rest of the world does not hold the same interest. So to gift these games to the world is basically giving out atomic secrets to me. TREASONOUS!
On top of it being dumb on principle, I also despise the fact that they assigned the Chargers, who had the most travel in the NFL last year, to a game that is an ELEVEN HOUR FLIGHT and five time zones away. West coast teams are fucked with travel as it is so why DP them with this, Rodger?
Throw all this to the side and pretend that international games are actually a good thing. Refunding season ticket holders is the absolute least that the franchise could do. It is completely unfair to expect people to just book a flight to Brazil or for them to pay full price for an incomplete product.
