This Video Of Johnny Manziel Saying "I'm Just A Guy" Breaks My Heart

This video fills me with deep rage and sadness. Like, I had to pause and walk around the room. Some freshman looking frat kid, who probably thinks Dillion Gabriel is a top five college QB of all time, deadass said he didn’t know who Johnny Manziel was. I felt my blood boil. I wanted to jump through my phone screen, find this kid on campus, and spear him straight through the beer pong table. You’re telling me you’ve got the nerve to walk up to Johnny Manziel and have no idea who he is? Ge the fuck out of here.

But that wasn’t even the worst part. The part that really fucked me up? Hearing Johnny himself say, “I’m just a guy.” Bro. That shit broke my heart. It was like hearing Spider Man say “I’m just Peter Parker.” It’s like that song that goes like “sweep the streets I used to own”  No, Johnny. You are not just a guy. You are the guy. You’re a fucking legend. An icon. The face of a generation of college football fans. You were the reason I even cared about Texas A&M for a split second in my life.

What you did for the sport can’t be erased. It’s tattooed into college football history. The swagger, the improv, the chaos, you were pure electricity. Every Saturday you played felt like an event. It was like watching a dawg being let out the cage and tearing up the backyard. And yeah, the NFL didn’t pan out. So what? A ton of players don’t make it in the league. That doesn’t erase what you did in college, and it damn sure doesn’t erase the culture you created.

You didn’t fake shit. You lived loud, you lived flawed, and you lived real. When Money Manziel showed up, it was unapologetic. It was raw. And yeah, maybe it got messy, but at least it was honest. That’s rare as fuck these days. In a world full of media trained robots saying the same safe bullshit, you were out here being yourself, for better or worse, and I respect the fuck out of that.

So no, Johnny, you’re not just a guy. You’re that motherfucking dude. Always were. Always will be. College football wouldn’t be the same without you. Don’t ever forget who the fuck you are.
