Help Is On The Way: The Yankees Plan To Fix Their Bullpen Crisis Starts By Trading For Pirates Closer David Bednar

The Yankees entered today in desperate need of relief pitching. They have virtually no one who throws hard in their pen and have pretty much been rolling out the same 3-4 pitchers every night. They're on fumes. We frustratedly watched as Duran and Helsley were dealt to the NL East yesterday.  Mason Miller went to San Diego this morning. Well, here comes help in the form of hard throwing closer David Bednar.

I am ecstatic about all of this. Bednar is exactly the kind of arm they needed. Now do they need more than one of him? No doubt, but hey you gotta start someone. Bednar throws heat, strikes out a bunch of guys, doesn't walk many, and avoids the home run ball. On top of that he's under contract for cheap next year as well, which comes in handy when Luke Weaver and Devin Williams are free agents. The haul isn't too much either with the big piece going to Pittsburgh being the catcher Flores. He's a nice prospect, but nowhere near a caliber of player that you're gonna hurt to lose here.

If you're making up a trust tree of relievers for the stretch run and into October you're looking at David Bednar, Luke Weaver, Devin Williams, Fernando Cruz, and Tim Hill. Everyone outside of that group I trust as far as I can throw them, and I can't throw them at all. Go get more in the next two hours.

Update: Hello Jake Bird. Keep stacking strikeout pitchers. Don't care about his stats in Colorado, they don't know how to manage major leaguers.
