Bare Knuckle Hockey Fights Are Going Down In Florida Immediately After The Panthers Raise Their 2nd Consecutive Cup Banner
The Florida Panthers have won back-to-back Stanley Cups. They are the best team in hockey, and the NHL runs through Sunrise right now. On October 7th, they'll open up their season by raising yet another Cup banner when they play against the Chicago Blackhawks. From there, the Panthers take a quick trip up to Philly to play against the Flyers on October 9th, before coming back home for a Matthew vs Brady Tkachuk matchup between the Panthers and Senators on the 11th.
And in between those two games? Amerant Bank Arena will be hosting the Bare Knuckle Ice Wars.
Former hockey players. Former MMA fighters who just so happen to be able to stand on skates. Even a couple of gals getting into the mix with the first ever female fight at Ice Wars. All going toe-to-toe at center ice in the home of champions without any sticks or gloves.
I know the good people of Florida love their P's. But something tells me this is more up their alley. The same reason you'd show up to a NASCAR race to watch some crashes, you go to a hockey game to see some fights. But what if NASCAR was just all crashes? And what if hockey was strictly fights? No sticks or pucks. You don't even have to waste time with guys dropping the gloves now. Just a couple of dudes (and two ladies) squaring off against one another and trying to bash the other person's face in.
You don't often think about violence in terms of beauty, but how beautiful is that? Anybody can throw some punches when you're standing on solid ground in your shoes. But to be on a sheet of NHL ice while wearing skates with blades that are just 3mm wide on the bottom of your feet? Well that takes a heightened level of grace and elegance. These are all a bunch of maniacs, but they're also a bunch of artists. Sick, twisted, couple of screws loose for sure, artists.
And to think it'll all be going down on the same ice that the Florida Panthers just won back-to-back Stanley Cups on. The only thing that sucks here is that Matthew Tkachuk will be a little too preoccupied to make a guest appearance. Unless the Panthers want to give him the night off against the Flyers so he can stay in town for Ice Wars. Hopefully Peter Worrell can throw the ceremonial first punch.
That era of Panthers teams ruled. Both the Bure brothers, Peter Worrell, John Vanbiesbrouk, Dino Ciccarelli in the twilight of his career. All beauts.
