The Dallas Mavericks Reportedly Forcing A Luka Doncic Billboard To Be Moved Because It Was Too Close To Their Arena Is Extremely Pathetic

In the wake of the Luka Doncic trade, it was truly remarkable how not a day would go by without the Dallas Mavericks as an organization finding new ways to embarrass themselves. The trade itself should have been enough, but time after time after time we saw them act in ways that made you think everyone involved has some sort of humiliation kink.

Not long after the trade, their CEO came out and said they may or may not have underestimated the reaction from Mavs fans following the trade

A few days later, they tried to digitally remove him from the team's new music video

Then, there was the whole ejecting a Mavs fan for mouthing "FIRE NICO" during a game

A few weeks after that, they decided to increase ticket prices for this upcoming season so they could "invest in the team"

The point is, at every turn the Mavs seemed determined to make the worst possible PR decisions known to man. It's actually sort of impressive how terribly the organization handled this whole thing, and would you be shocked if I told you that even 6 months following the trade, the Mavs are still operating this way?

Jesus Christ Dallas, please get your shit together. Guess what? The second you traded Luka Doncic, you no longer get to have an opinion on anything Luka Doncic related. That's how trades work. Nobody forced you to make that trade.  Nobody forced you to act like complete bozos at every turn in the aftermath of the trade, this is all your own doing!

So for them to get their panties in a wad all over a Luka Overwatch billboard being "too close" to their arena is extremely pathetic. Maybe I'm being naive here, but who gives a shit? Do the Mavs owners think that their fans may have forgotten about Luka and the trade, and that this billboard will remind them of it all? It's not like this is a Lakers billboard or anything like that which, if it were, I guess I would understand. It would still be soft, but understandable on some level. But a video game billboard? Yikes.

Once again I have to ask, how is nobody in the building with the Mavs speaking up and suggesting maybe they should stop doing stuff like this? How does it benefit them at all? It just makes them look petty for something they did to themselves! If they don't want a constant reminder of their idiotic trade, then don't make such an idiotic trade in the first place!

All this tells me is that deep down, the Mavs front office and ownership group regrets their decision. How else can you explain something like this? They're embarrassed about how everything went down and can't even stomach seeing Luka's face anywhere near their arena. You don't operate that way if you don't have buyer's remorse with your current roster. If you didn't, you wouldn't give a shit about a Luka Doncic video game billboard being close to your arena.

As badly as this new ownership group probably wishes people would just forget that there was ever a Luka Doncic era in Dallas, unfortunately that's not how things work. This is going to haunt them for as long as Luka is in the league. That's the reality they were stepping into when they allowed Nico Harrison to do Nico Harrison things.

To still be crying about it all these months later is just sad.
