We've Finally Got A Trailer For The Long-Anticipated John Candy Documentary And Boy Oh Boy Are You Gonna Cry Your Eyes Out

Jesus Christ. Cue the water works. John Candy was a little bit before my time, but as someone who (actually) grew up in the 90s his presence was still felt. Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Cool Runnings. He was one of those guys who brought a smile to your face every time you saw him on the screen. He was a wildly charismatic larger than life figure, but more importantly...he was human. You could see that he struggled and those struggles ended up killing him at the age of 46. It's one of the great "what if" stories of all time. Same thing with Farley.

In terms of personality he reminds me a lot of my friend Matt Sidebottom. Matt unexpectedly passed four years ago while I was on a High Noon trip in Georgia. Shout out to Large for helping me get through that. Here's a photo of us in Jacksonville...

Sorry to get personal, it's just that whenever someone brings up Farley or Candy or any large human that left us too soon, I think of Sidey. God I miss him. It's been years and I can barley even write this. Which is why you have to give credit to everyone who participated in that doc. Conan, Steven Martin, Martin Short. Mel Brooks, Bill Murray, etc..

It's not easy to talk about your dead friends, but it's important. Especially when that friend had as big of an impact on people as John Candy. You think of all the little life moments that they missed. All the things that you've done that they would've have loved to be a part of. But you know what? That's life. I'm not going to sit here and say "only the good die young", but in the case of John Candy and Matt Sidebottom that's exactly what happened. As sad as it is, you just have to be grateful for the time you had.

The documentary John Candy: I Like Me comes out October 10th on Prime Video.
