When it comes to iconic arcade games, truthfully I don't give a single solitary fuck about Street Fighter. Was always more of a Turtles In Time guy growing up.
But I gotta admit, this is one of the better movie announcements I've seen in recent memory. Fusing the cast into the OG character select screen with that theme song is simply A+ marketing. Even a casual like me got roped into scrolling through this whole gallery... And it seems like the diehard fans are happy so far?
It's certainly a list of people I never thought I'd see working together on a big budget action movie. This is either going DIRECTLY to the $5 DVD bin at Walmart or it's a billion dollar franchise.
There is no in between.

Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns part 3? Jason Momoa vs 50 Cent? Eric André vs Andrew Schulz? What the hell is going on out there! And let's not forget professional psychopath David Dastmalchian getting in the mix too. It's such a demented & bizarre lineup but also undeniably provocative. Feels like it's got enough juice to get the people going.
And we haven't even gotten to the girl bosses yet.
Let's jump to that level now.
I've been wondering when someone in Marvel or DC would cast Rayna in something, this seems like a solid step towards that. She's had quite a year starring in 'Cobra Kai', becoming a SI Swimsuit rookie, and now bringing her black belt to the big screen for this role. Hopefully she ends up in 'John Wick 5' next. Impressive stick skills even if the Khalifa 'brows don't do it for you.
Next up we have Mel Jarnson as Cammy, no idea who she is but I see the vision. Also she was in the 2021 'Mortal Kombat' so this should be a breeze for her to pull off.
And they'll have Callina Liang playing the legendary Chun-Li. Don't know much about her either, seems like they're taking a gamble on some young bucks for a lot of these roles but hey, that worked out pretty well for the MCU in the 2010s.
I'm not quite sure how some of these girls or guys are gonna reach the anatomical shapes of those Street Fighter characters, pretty sure it's literally impossible? But bless them for trying anyway!
Don't know much about the guy who's directing it, Kitao Sakurai. But he has created a handful of funny things with Eric Andre before… That gives me hope this movie will have a good mix of unexpected dementia + over the top action. Really lean into those Jean Claude 90's vibes all the way. The pieces are lined up to create a great rainy day trip to the cinema next October.
I can feel it in my plums. Let's hope they pull it off. HADOOOOOKEN!!!
