New Orleans Still Hasn't Caught Derrick Groves, One of The 10 Inmates Who Escaped Orleans Parish Justice Center Over 130 Days Ago

Over the summer, I managed to milk the New Orleans Prison Break story for as many blogs as it could possibly be worth. Which is 9 blogs. That's one blog for every Orleans Parish Justice Center inmate who escaped custody through a cell toilet on the morning of Friday, May 16th.

It was to easy. But from there, the city of New Orleans gradually wrangled in the prisoners one by one. They threw the book at any friend or family member who may have aided in their beloved fugitive's escape. Folks on the internet placed bets on Polymarket over who would be the next man caught. It seemed as if New Orleans was on track to slowly but surely bring all 10 fugitives to justice. If you have way too much time on your hands today (or just really hate your job) here are all the blogs I wrote detailing all the various twists and turns this manhunt has taken over the past 130+ days.

But in the 2 months since I last updated the blog, I had nearly forgotten there was still a prisoner on the loose. Derrick "Woo" Groves. A convicted double murdered who from the jump was deemed the most violent and unpredictable of the fugitives. In fact, Derrick Groves has such a reputation for violence, that two of his prosecutors (along with their families) have fled the state of Louisiana in fear of retaliation since his escape.

Derrick Groves is allegedly one of the prisoners who intimidated an Orleans Parish maintenance worker into shutting off the prison water supply, which allowed them to escape from behind a toilet. Derrick Groves is the grandson of a woman named Kim Groves, who was infamously murdered by a crooked police officer in 1994 after she reported him for misconduct. The man has some interesting lore to him.

For over 4 months, despite a standing $20,000 bounty on his head, Derrick Groves remains "in the wind". So if you're living the greater New Orleans area (or anywhere in the United States… or Mexico… or Thailand… or literally anywhere in the world for that matter), keep your head on a swivel for Derrick "Woo" Groves. Keep in mind, he very well may have changed in appearance since the escape. Luckily, the fine people of X.com have put together these helpful images to show the public a few possible identities Mr. (Or Ms.) Groves may have taken on.

Thoughts and prayers to this poor cashier who caught a very unfortunate stray last month.

I have to imagine the Derrick Groves documentary is already in the works. At this point, I'm afraid we're reaching feature length movie territory. Maybe a six-episode Netflix mini-series. Depending on how long he remains on the run (or how his eventual capture goes down), we might even be looking at a Hollywood blockbuster. If Woo Groves really goes out in a blaze of glory, they might even be able to land Michael B. Jordan for the role.
