Cam Young Drills A Putt On 18 To Win The First Match Today - Gives Us Hope And Solidifies Himself As The Best American Player This Week
Why didn't Cam Young play in the first session on Friday again? I guess having a guy who played at Bethpage a bunch of times, is in form and ends as your leading points scorer isn't a good player out there early. Either way, what a putt. What a week for Cam Young. He could have rolled over, especially after blowing a lead today, instead he stayed in the fight. He stared down Justin Rose, a guy who has been on fire all week, and drilled that putt to win. It gave America a breath of life, probably our last breath, but a breath. We can start doing the 'well if we flip the next 5 matches, we're right in this thing' which is always a fun game to play on the back 9 on Sunday.
All I know is we have a guy who looks like a Ryder Cup player again. Cam Young was awesome all week. It didn't matter the format or teammate or singles, he delivered when we needed him to. This is no easy putt either. You had the whole team needing him to make that one putt or it's basically over. Europe needs 2 points to win the cup, you can't give them a half right off the bat (especially after the envelope rule too).
You can feel some momentum after this putt too. Fitzpatrick missed a putt on 17 to blow a lead to Bryson and is now all square on 18. JT hit a shot closer than Fleetwood on 18. Give us hope.
