'I Would Have Set The Course Up Differently' - Keegan Bradley Finally Admitted To The Biggest Mistake Of The Ryder Cup, Something That Should Never Happen
I love Keegan Bradley, think he was put in a weird spot where he was gifted this captain's role and then probably should have been on the team. But he made some massive errors. You don't throw Morikawa and English together, let alone TWO times. But the biggest mistake of this whole thing wasn't that pairing, wasn't having certain guys on the team, it's that they neutered Bethpage. You don't neuter a course that should play to your team.
They wanted to make this a putting contest. They cut down the rough, they wanted it to be a chance to make putts. Good idea, except we suck at putting. Europe is nails at putting. Not exactly the best combo. Bethpage should have played like a US Open course. When you have it set up like that, it's course manipulation in the correct way for the US. We see it when we go to Europe, most notably in 2023 in Italy. They manipulated that course to play to all of their advantage and boat raced us. It woudl have been a boat race this time around but we actually had fight today.
At least he recognized the mistake, but it's one that never should have happened. Speaking of which, he at least has brains:
Stop giving free half points because a guy is 'hurt.' You lose that point. It's a cowards way out to get a half point and should never happen. But the point remains. This Ryder Cup was lost the moment we fucked up the course and sent Morikawa/English out twice.
