Steve Cohen Publicly Apologized To Mets Fans For The Disaster That Was The 2025 Mets And Promised To Figure Out What Caused The Abysmal Final Three Months Of The Season
Mets fans everywhere. I owe you an apology . You did your part by showing up and supporting the team. We didn’t do our part. We will do a post-mortem and figure out the obvious and less obvious reasons why the team didn’t perform up to your and my expectations We are all feeling raw emotions today. I know how much time and effort you have put into this team. The result was unacceptable. Your emotions tell me how much you care and continues to motivate the organization to do better. Thank You to the best fans in sports.
On this morning's We Gotta Believe, I asked for SOMEBODY in the Mets franchise to apologize for the shit they put their fans through following a season where the fans showed up to Citi Field in record numbers only to get rewarded with yet another embarrassing finish in what had to be the most frustrating team I've ever watched. I didn't think I'd actually get an apology and actually wondered if me simply asking for one was proof I am officially an old, jaded Mets fan that has become completely worn out by rooting for one of the truly star crossed franchises in sports.
It turns out Steve Cohen was actually in the process of tweeting out an apology less than an hour after I asked for one, which is the first step in repairing the damage this team unfurled on millions of peoples' souls. An apology was nice, but the actions taken to fix whatever was rotten in the franchise that caused the 2025 season are what I am interested in seeing. It's one thing to say you will figure out what has to be done. It's quite another to actually figure it out then do it, let alone whether or not it actually works. There was a whole lot that went wrong with the Mets season that was due to shit luck and injuries. However, there was also a whole lot of decision-making that fans first-guessed instantly that ended up being wrong.
So Uncle Stevie clearly has his work cut out for him that won't be able to be fixed by simply spending a ton of money, since $330 million couldn't land a playoff spot in the watered down postseason with three wild cards. The thing is though, I truly believe he will do everything in his power (and wallet) to fix it considering the roster, the infrastructure, and even the fan experience has improved substantially since he took over for the Wilpons. It's not going to be quick and probably will involve some tough choices being made. Yet I truly believe that they will happen because the Mets have an owner that actually gives a damn about the fans.
If David Stearns has any common sense in his Excel spreadsheet-based brain, he will apologize for subjecting Mets fans to Frankie Montas and Cedric Mullins this season when he has his press conference today at 3:30 pm. I won't be holding my breath for that one however.
