Tank's MLB Wild Card Preview
American League
3. Cleveland Guardians vs. 6. Detroit Tigers
Tigers 2-0
The Guardians made history, overcoming a 15.5-game deficit to win the Central Division and host this series. The Tigers were able to right the ship enough and get the final Wild Card spot. Cleveland spent a lot of energy on their September surge, but the Tigers, who were the best team in the Central for 95% are situated well for a rebound. Having Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal going in the opener will be a boost for Detroit. I like the Tigers to get that first win and take the series in two games.
4. New York Yankees vs. 5. Boston Red Sox
Yankees 2-1
No team was hotter down the stretch than the Yankees, as they ended the season on an eight-game winning streak and closed the season on an 11-1 run. The Red Sox stumbled a bit down the stretch, but have played well in the Bronx, five of seven at Yankee Stadium during the season. Perhaps no Game 1 is more important than this one, as Garrett Crochet opposes Max Fried. The Yankees' pitching appears to be in better shape after the opener, and the Sox come in with some injuries, with Roman Anthony unable to play in this quick series. It's Yanks-Sox, so expect it to go the distance with the Yankees emerging in three games.
National League
3. Los Angeles Dodgers vs. 6. Cincinnati Reds
Dodgers 2-0
The Dodgers are defending champions, but they have their issues, as their bullpen is a mess. However, their ability to adjust and move players around has them built for the postseason. They get an easy opponent as the Reds are only in the playoffs because of the Mets' putrid and totally gutless, heartless, cowardly season. The Reds are without a doubt the worst team to ever sniff October. The Mets choked every day, gave it away, and the Reds were standing there because nobody else wanted it. At least Cedric Mullins is happy in Aruba. This will be a sweep, and it will undoubtedly be two blowouts.
4. Chicago Cubs vs. 5. San Diego Padres
Padres 2-1
The Cubs are hosting the Wild Card against the Padres, as Wrigley Field gets some day baseball in the Fall. The classic setting will be tinged with sadness once they realize the Padres are the better team. The Padres have one of the best bullpens in baseball and could make a long run in this postseason. The Padres have the better starting pitching and the deeper lineup. I still like the Cubs to get one game as this series goes the distance.
