GREAT NEWS - 'The Simpsons Movie' Is Finally Getting A Long-Deserved Sequel
'The Simpsons Movie' is finally getting a sequel, almost exactly 20 years after it hit theaters in the Summer of 2007 - and dare I say, as someone who hasn't regularly watched The Simpsons in ~15 years - I'm pretty friggin excited!
I don't think 'The Simpsons Movie' gets the credit it deserves for being as good as it is, especially considering The Simpsons was already pretty rough by the time it came out. They dug deep, though, and found not only the laughs that reminded us of the good times - but the heart as well! There's some scenes in that movie that still get me; the Homer and Marge wedding tape stuff?! C'mon!
On the funny side, it's got that unbelievable Bart dick scene that had the theater howling....
There's great little gags that remind me a lot of the show, like the Tom Hanks cameo….
And I see this go viral all the time, but you really can't overstate how much of a stranglehold 'Spider-Pig' have on the youth of America in 2007….
So who's to say they can't turn back the clock one more time for something special?! All it takes is the right creative team and a few great ideas - we're already half there with the characters and the world of Springfield! I almost feel like this would be the perfect series finale if done right, as well? Again, that relies on them nailing it as much as they did the first time, and it's coming from someone who doesn't keep up with the show currently - though I will admit I've caught a few episodes here and there that weren't as bad as I anticipated. It never reaches the heights on Seasons 1-7 but isn't the unwatchable garbage it's sold as by the haters.
Maybe it's the eternal optimist in me, but I've got hope for 'The Simpsons Movie 2' - I think it could be good! And if you haven't seen the first, or it's been a while, I'd highly recommend a rewatch. It's great!
P.S. Speaking of Simpsons things that don't get the credit it deserves, are they lowkey one of the best video game franchises of all time?! From the OG arcade game to 'Road Rage' to 'Hit & Run' and even the video game that came out with the movie - they all rock!
