It's Over For Europe: Phil Mickelson Has Cracked The Code On How To Win The Ryder Cup. Bring In A Coach Like Lou Holtz To The USA

Here is why looking outside of golf to a coach K or Lou holtz is worth exploring. Golf is an individual sport that doesn’t have team work, support system, partnership, team analytics, personality traits, and more. The Europeans have a template that teaches and prepares their captains for these skills. U.S. has a new template every 2 years with little continuity. If a coach K or Lou Holtz or someone similar took over, would it be built upon or would it be scrapped and start over again afterwards? If that’s the case, it would be a waste of time and effort and not worth doing to begin with.

Hell yes. This is the sort of stuff I want to debate now that the Ryder Cup is over. I want to get weird since everyone is throwing out how to fix Team USA and all the other ridiculous shit that happens after a loss. People got takes, Phil is one of them. I want him to mean the actual Lou Holtz for team USA, not a Lou Holtz type.

Quick break for my top-5 guys to be captain in 2027:

5. Paul Azinger

4. The athlete who wins the celebrity tournament in Lake Tahoe

3.  Coach O, but only as an interim

2. Theo Epstein

1. Jay Wright/Dan Hurley, make them say no

That's the perfect list. Guys who know how to win, mix it up or take a guy like Epstein who broke two curses. We can end the streak in Europe with Theo Epstein. Or could you imagine the things Dan Hurley would say back to the Ireland crowd? That's the sort of guy we'd take over there too. Make them all captains and vice captains at this point, I don't care. It can't go more wrong than it has in the past.

This is the sort of thing we should be arguing, not whether or not we fucked up the course manipulation, pairings and how the PGA needs to figure out a system in place. Hell, bring in Jerry Colango and let him fix it like he did Team USA basketball. Whatever we do, don't let anyone from Team USA soccer in there. That will end poorly. But Phil being the lead brain to recruit someone like Lou Holtz? You have my attention.

Look, it's all stupid. I'm well aware, but that's where we are right now. There's not much going on outside of playoff baseball at the moment and now I can only picture Lou Holtz strutting into Adare Manor leading us to victory. It's not what we want, it's what we need.
