Napheesa Collier Claims That WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert Told Her Privately That Caitlin Clark Should Be "Grateful" To The WNBA Because They're Responsible For Her Sponsorship Deals
Listen, we're in the best part of the sports season right now for most. Football is in full swing, you've got the MLB playoffs, golf is somewhat exciting, basketball and hockey are about to start, and yet, some of the biggest drama is coming from "The W". I know Dave said this but I really do love this league, man. There's nothing like it. The players are consistently fighting eachother, the refs don't call shit and all the star players get injured, meanwhile you've got arguments about salaries and viewership amongst a zillion other things.
One thing is for sure and two things are for certain: Caitlin Clark is laughing her ass off somewhere at this comment that Lynx star Napheesa Collier says that the commissioner told her in private. I'm not totally sure why you would tell one of the star players of the league a comment like that about the indisputable marketing machine of a league that is growing, but that's just the W.
Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve got suspended for a do-or-die game in the playoffs and fined $15,000 which is the equivalent of fining an NBA player like a million dollars, and we're a game away from the Indiana Fever making the WNBA Finals without Caitlin Clark and starting a LOT of discourse. I know it's popular to say "who gives a shit about this league" and comment that under every WNBA blog, but as you can see, they're everywhere and the pageviews match the fact that a majority of people seem to actually care about what's going on.
Caitlin got fined a whopping $200 for commenting that the refs couldn't stop the Fever in their round 1 win:
So it's either hold your tongue when the commissioner is taking credit for success that you've built for them, or maybe they'll double it and try to put a huge dent in her wallet and fine her $400. Regardless, THIS LEAGUE is no longer about the NBA, it's about the W, and inject every single ounce of drama into these sports loving veins.
P.S. Only losers complain about the refs is an unbelievable statement from the commissioner:
