Finding Out How 'One Battle After Another' Is Inspired By Star Wars Blew My Mind
Paul Thomas Anderson's 'One Battle After Another' is taking the world by storm this weekend, and if you've seen it already, you know why. It's an incredibly chaotic, epic journey in a world full of hilarious/eccentric characters - and most importantly, it's just a fun time at the movies. I don't know how you couldn't have a blast watching it, even at an almost three hour runtime! It flew by and I haven't stopped thinking about it since I left the theater.
After finding out how many parallels to Star Wars it has, though, it might be even better than we thought. Not only are the themes of a scrappy rebellion overthrowing the government obvious, but even Leonardo DiCaprio's outfit was Boba Fett inspired!
There's another link between 'One Battle After Another' and Star Wars that I want to talk about, but it's a pretty major spoiler for the movie, so I'm gonna warn you here - don't scroll further if you don't wanna know more details.

If you were to look at Bob as Charlene's Obi-Wan instead of Sensei as Bob's Obi-Wan, this lines up perfectly....
They even do an 'I AM YOUR FATHER' style reveal with the villain while the hero is at their weakest point! It's right on the nose! That's the one parallel that I picked up in real time - because you pretty much can't do that beat in a movie without drawing immediate comparisons to 'Empire Strikes Back' - and that scene was incredible. Chase Infiniti's "Why is your shirt so tight?" to Sean Penn was so fucking funny, and the "I am not a homosexual!" response was even funnier. I might have to see this movie in theaters again soon. I loved it so much.
