Saturday's 3:30 Slate Is Why We Watch College Football

Man, what an absolute delight of a college football slate. We came into this Saturday thinking we might have a bit of a snoozer week and ended up with what may be one of the best afternoons of the year.

I'll have more on all of these results in tomorrow morning's weekly college football recap, but there were three can't-miss games all going on at once — alongside a couple other noteworthy games and postseason baseball. We saw what might be the de facto end of the James Franklin era at Penn State, Arch Manning's definitive proclamation that he legitimately sucks and Vanderbilt give Alabama all it could handle in Tuscaloosa at the same time.

If you were only in front of one television, I sincerely apologize and urge you to create a better college football viewing experience for yourself as soon as possible.

To just give a very quick thought on each of those games, though:

- This has to be it for Franklin. I don't think Penn State can fire him, but go take the Arkansas or Virginia Tech job where they'll be thrilled with what you can do in the short-term until they, too, eventually tire of it.

- Nico Iamaleava had the best game of his college career and may have saved his NFL hopes with what he put on tape today.

- Arch Manning sucks. I said after Week 1 I'd buy any stock people were selling and now I'm stuck holding a bag I couldn't trade for a bag of footballs. He's just straight-up ass.

- That's a good win for Alabama, but Vanderbilt is still legit. Diego Pavia turned the ball over twice in the red zone, which was a killer for what was arguably the better team in the game aside from quarterback play.
