Taylor Swift Reveals The Character In "Father Figure" Was Loosely Based On Logan Roy From Succession

“And this is written from the perspective of like, the mentor to the protege, because I kept thinking about that scene in Succession where Logan looks at his kids, and says, 'I love you. But you are not serious people.' And I think about that scene constantly. I was like, 'I want to write a song that has that energy of sort of Logan Roy being like, 'You bit the hand that fed you, and you do not have possess the vernacular to be doing this.' But I also really have completely related to the protege perspective in so many of these situations, right? Like I relate to the younger one, like when I'm listening to this song, even though it's from the perspective of the father figure character.”

SUCCESSION HIVE STAND UP!!!!!!!

This song, Father Figure, seems to be based on events that Taylor has experienced in her life - that being said, who better a character than a real, true evil asshole like Logan Roy to add a little color to the character? If the shoe fits!!! HE'LL BE UR FATHER FIGURE, YOU'LL DRINK THAT BROWN LIQUOR!!!!!!

I actually never expected we'd hear Taylor talking about how fictional TV characters help mold those within her songs, but I'm not sure why I was surprised? Taylor LOVES TV. She said it herself - she watches so much of it, she loves to rot. She's up on all of the trends just like anyone else would be. Some Father Figure lyrics for the casuals:

I'll be your father figureI drink that brown liquorI can make deals with the devil because my dick's biggerThis love is pure profitJust step into my officeI dry your tears with my sleeveLeave it with meI protect the family

AND

I saw a change in youMy dear boy…They don't make loyalty like they used toYour thoughtless ambition sparked the ignition on foolish decisions which led to misguided visionsThat to fulfill your dreams…You had to get rid of me

ONE MORE TIME (Maybe a future where Kendall wins?)

I was your father figureWe drank that brown liquorYou made a deal with this devil turns out my dick's biggerYou want a fight, you found itI got the place surroundedYou'll be sleeping with the fishes before you know you're drowningWhose portrait's on the mantle?Who covered up your scandals?Mistake my kindness for weakness and find your card cancelled

This song is already climbing up the ranks of my favorite songs on the album and this has added a LOT more weight to it. FF through the lens of Kendall and Logan Roy feels like fan fiction and I'm thrilled that Taylor knows her fans so well.

We'll let Kendall into the "Eldest Daughter" club in the meantime
