Footage Of Victor Wembanyama Training With Hakeem Olajuwon Has Hit The Internet And The Rest Of The NBA Might Be In Trouble

Over the course of the offseason, every once in a while we would get a update about Victor Wembanyama and his offseason training that suggested we were in for a monster Year 3. First, he went to go train with monks. Then, he hit up KG to learn from one of the greatest PFs to ever do it. If that wasn't enough, we then learned that not only had he tapped into KG's knowledge, he also added another legend to the list in Hakeem Olajuwon. One of the best defenders on earth in his prime, an offensive genius with insane footwork, just the idea of Wemby adopting anything from those two guys, whether it was KG's fadeaway out of the post or the Dream Shake was terrifying to think about given how dominant Wemby already is in his young career.
Well, the actual footage of Wemby working out with Hakeem has hit the internet, and I think it's safe to say that we're in for something special
I know this might not look like much to some, but I would disagree. Wemby bringing this level of footwork and offensive arsenal to his game is legitimately terrifying. His first two years he was more of a floor spacer center, not really operating out of the post and instead using his range. He was already tough to stop with that approach, but now with some of this knowledge and footwork? Good fucking luck.
Plus, I found it fascinating to hear the knowledge and guidance from Hakeem during that clip. When you're talking about one of the greatest players in NBA history, I am very interested in what he has to say. Seeing him teach Wemby his ways was a bit of a mind fuck for those of us who are old enough to remember Hakeem as a player, plus the whole Rockets/Spurs rivalry thing. I mean, just think of Wemby with this in his bag
and guess what? Given this is the stuff we're already seeing from Wemby this preseason, just wait until the post offense makes an appearance
Now that this footage with Hakeem is out, I desperately need to see the footage of KG's training session. This was nowhere near enough
There's a decent amount of hype surrounding this year's Spurs as we enter the new NBA season, and it's not hard to see why. A new version of Wemby appears to be on the horizon, they have a ton of young intriguing talent, they brought in the best backup big man in the NBA (and really the world) in Luke Kornet, not to mention the INCREDIBLE nickname created by Spurs fans for those twin towers (French Vanilla). I have questions about their shooting and wing play, but we have plenty of time to see how that shakes out.
What we do know is that if you have any dreams of contending or winning a title one day, you need a top 5 player. It's the hardest infinity stone to get in my opinion when it comes to roster building, and all signs point to Wemby being that piece, maybe as soon as this season.
