Counterpoint To Kadyn Proctor: Iowa State Is Now Using A 6'8" 310 Pound Offensive Lineman At Kicker
Fair argument by our beloved John Rich here. Kadyn Proctor does in fact rule, especially going wildcat. However, we have a counterpoint. Let me introduce you to Iowa State's emergency kicker:
First off, hell yeah. We need more big boys doing things like this in football. I want to see a backup offensive lineman do kickoffs in college football. What happens if someone breaks a return? You trust a kicker to make a hit? I don't think so. But, an offensive lineman? Now we're onto something here. I want nothing more than this game to come down to Rhodes kicking a game-winning field goal. This is why you watch college football. Sure, the Giants could forget to use a kicker in the NFL numerous times, but you don't see a 310 pound big boy lining up to take kicks.
This is basically the football version of a positional player throwing pitches. You wait to see how slow the lob is into the plate. Here, we get to see the boot of a big man send that ball down the field. Let him kick all the time. If you want to be a new-aged coach you have to find an advantage anywhere and everywhere, this is clearly step number 1.
