Sports Agent Jimmy Sexton, Who Represents James Franklin, Billy Napier, Mike Norvell (and more), Is Going To Make Money Hand Over Fist This Off-Season

If you're unfamiliar with the name Jimmy Sexton, you likely won't be for long. Jimmy Sexton is a sports agent. One of the most powerful agents in the game. Specifically in the sport of football. He represents athletes and coaches across both the NFL and college football.

The way this current college football season going, at the end of the year, we're poised to have one of the most chaotic coaching carousels of an off-season we've ever seen. By quickly scrolling through the conference standings, it's possible that any number these schools could have openings this off-season (if they don't already).

Florida, Penn State, Stanford, Arkansas, UCLA, Auburn, South Carolina, Florida State, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Maryland, and depending on how things shake out, we could get schools Michigan, LSU, or even Clemson with head coach jobs to fill.

Those are just the schools who could potentially fire their coaches. But those job openings will have to be filled by someone. Meaning teams with coaches who they would prefer to keep could end up having to backfill their jobs (i.e. Ole Miss, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, USF, etc.).

That's millions and millions of dollars that will flying around this off-season, and right in middle of all that money are the agents brokering these deals. And there's no agent more in the middle of the college football coaching carousel than Jimmy Sexton.

As I'm sure you've heard by now, one of the many patently insane things about college football is that when these big name coaches get hired for millions of dollars, their contracts come with enormous buyouts. There's no better job in the world than Fired College Football Coach.

Take Jimmy Sexton's client James Franklin for example. Penn State fired James Franklin with 6-years left on his contract, so they owed him $48.6M buyout. Jimmy Sexton gets a cut of that.

He also represents Billy Napier, who was fired by Florida this week, and paid a $20M buyout. Another coach Jimmy Sexton gets paid on, and will surely be paid on again when he signs his next multi-million dollar contract with a brand new school.

Consider Jimmy Sexton's client Mike Norvell, Head Coach of Florida State. His seat is as hot as anyone's. Mike Norvell's contract runs through 2031. If he was fired today, he would be owed a buyout in the ballpark of $50M (a little more than that actually). In case you haven't pieced together what that means by now, here's a diagram for you.

Whether his clients succeed or fail, Jimmy Sexton makes money hand over fist. On top of James Franklin, Billy Napier, and Mike Norvell… Jimmy Sexton represents Lane Kiffin, Mike Elko, Kirby Smart, Kalen DeBoer, Dan Lanning, Steve Sarkisian, Dan Mullen, Jimbo Fisher and so many other coaches across college football.

What my very thorough diagram fails to include, is that Jimmy Sexton will now leverage the likes of Curt Cignetti's 8-year, $93M contract into extensions for his clients who are still in fine standing with their schools. It also doesn't mention that when one of Jimmy Sexton's clients leaves an opening, he's going to do his darnedest to backfill that job with another one of his clients. Then backfill that job with another. And another. And as far down the line as he's able to take it.

He still represents Nick Saban by the way. A walking whale who's at all times a bored day away from jumping back into coaching for a blank check's worth of money. Not to mention the $438M contract he has to be an analyst at ESPN.

And that's all just college football. He represents a slew of NFL players as well. Jimmy Sexton is either the smartest, or the luckiest man in the world. I suppose it's probably a mixture of both. I'm sure the guy does plenty of work. But boy does it seem like he just sits back and collects his percentages. It's impossible for him to lose. Heading into what's shaping up to be one of the craziest off-seasons in college football history, nobody is sitting prettier than Jimmy Sexton.
