'I Had A Shit Year. Attention Was On This Jackass.' - Dan Hurley Wants To Stop Taunting Fanbases This Year After Becoming The No. 1 Villain In College Hoops
Norlander sat down and talked with Dan Hurley yesterday at Big East Media Day. Typically media days are pointless and just full of boring quotes. That's until you get to the Big East when you realize there's a Hurley, two Pitino's, McDermott, Shaka, Kevin Willard, you get the point. A bunch of good, entertaining coaches, which is what the Big East was always built on.
Now, we have Hurley talking about last year. Just some instances come to mind:
You get the point. Here's the thing though, I don't want him to change. I think Dan Hurley being a loose cannon and content machine is good for the sport. You won't find me defending a ref. You won't find me caring about some shit talking between fans and coaches, especially in the Big East. This sport has always been built on coaches. It's why the Big East was successful when it started and you had big John Thompson, Calhoun, Lou Carnesecca, Rollie, the list goes on.
Do I think Hurley is going to change? No. He's still Dan Hurley. He's still going to run his mouth a bit when he wants:
I also love seeing meltdowns over guys like Hurley throwing a fit. He's at least acknowledging that it cost him some games, which is really the punishment. No one cares about a fine or anything like that, does it cost you a game is all that matters. Two rings, baldy? Hilarious line, especially since Hurley is as bald as the rest of us. College hoops needs a villain from a coaching standpoint. It rotates who it is based on winning, what they say, how they act. I've seen no less than 25 villains in my 38 years as a fan. Hurley is the No. 1 right now and will be there. Say fuck it and embrace it.
