Crazy Doorbell Cam Footage of Minnesota Mom Who Saved 22 Children From Flaming School Bus Moments Before Explosion
My goodness. I was not prepared for just how "flaming" that bus was about to become. That's some heroic mothering right there. It's one of the many reasons you always walk outside to meet your children at the bus when they arrive home from school.
A) Because your child loves you and wants to see you
B) So they don't get kidnapped by Ethan Hawke and his van full of balloons (I watched Black Phone the other day)
C) In case the bus driver is unknowingly driving on a bed of flames and you have an opportunity earn yourself a hero's gift basket
I'd be lying if I said the gift basket didn't make me laugh a little. I mean, it's a public school district. It's not like you should expect anything greater. I'm not begrudging anyone for showing appreciation. But there's something about a festive basket full of soft cheeses and chocolate covered almonds sitting on your kitchen counter as a reminder of when you prevented the greatest tragedy your small town has ever seen.
"This caramel corn is amazing, where did you buy it?"
"Not sure. I got it when I saved the lives of 22 first graders."
I noticed the bus driver received a gift basket as well. Good on him for quickly evacuating his bus the moment the mother told him he was on fire. It can't be easy to stay calm under pressure amongst 22 children who aren't your own, and get them to do anything in an efficient manner. This is a heroic story of a mother & bus driver who worked together to prevent a tragedy... but it might be a good reason for the school district to run a quick internal audit on their school busses. Maybe that was a totally unpreventable freak accident that couldn't have been foreseen by anyone. But that particular school bus went from perfectly functional to completely engulfed in flames far quicker than a school bus full of children ever should. As a driver, I would like to think a warning light on my dashboard would alert me of that possibility before it was minutes away from explosion.
