Old Habits Die Hard: The Most Hated Man In Golf Luke Kwon Had An Article Written In 2019 About How He Nearly Got Kicked Off His College Team Because He Couldn't Wake Up On Time

SOURCE:

"To make matters worse, maturity issues began to arise for Kwon, who often wouldn’t wake up in time for workouts, practice or class. Oklahoma head coach Ryan Hybl nearly kicked him off the team – and would have had Kwon not been the “glue guy” for the Sooners.

Hybl gave Kwon an ultimatum: No practice for two weeks. Kwon’s only job was to wake up at 6 a.m. to meet with the weight-training staff. Miss one, and he was gone.

There's never been a more clear example of "old habits die hard" than this 2019 article about the most hated man in golf currently in Luke Kwon. Unless you live under a rock, you've seen the talk of the golf world about how Luke Kwon cost his team a chance at a $1.7 million prize pool in the biggest creator golf tournament of all time:

Since that time, Luke has taken some time to reflect on his actions and apologized:

Must have been in Norway before The People's League Championship too. I'd be damned if they didn't give that guy citizenship by now. But anyway, yesterday some Reddit sleuths found out that this isn't the first time Kwon has had troubles waking up for an alarm. What started as an ultimatum from his college coach to not miss anymore 6 am weight training sessions turned into a story of perseverance and inspiration from a college kid who was able to wake up at the crack of dawn for two straight weeks:

“I knew then that’s when it meant that much to him because he never whiffed,” Hybl said. “He earned my respect knowing that it was his job at that point, that was his only job was to wake up.”

Well now that makes Kwon look like an even greater asshole, because turns out $1.7 million didn't mean that much to him more than playing for the Oklahoma Sooners golf team. Ultimately, yeah, he looked like a dick by continuing to belittle his teammate PFT and then couldn't show up on time, but they do say all press is good press. I'm sure Kwon is going to do just fine and the calls for him to be removed from golf entirely are in my opinion hilariously stupid. Every sport needs a villain, and Kwon unfortunately plays a good one.

With that being said, if I was his teammate and I lost a chance at $1.7 million I'd probably hope both side's of that guys pillows are warm forever. I'd hope that his tea was too hot to drink when he received it, and too cold when he remembered it was there. I'd hope that he would step in a wet spot every time he put on some fresh socks. I'd hope that his sleeves would roll down every single time he washes his hands. I'd hope that his toes always find their way to the corners of his table. And lastly, I'd hope he hits every single red light on his commute home.
