Matt LaFleur's Job Should Be On The Line For The Rest Of The Season After The Packers' Offense Lays Yet Another Egg, This Time On MNF Against The Eagles

You really won't find a more frustrating football team to watch than the Green Bay Packers. A big reason for that is head coach Matt LaFleur and his play-calling. Now let me be completely fair, was Jordan Love good tonight? No sir. His fumble in field goal range at the end of the first half was BRUTAL.

Do they have a laundry list of injuries on offense? Yes. With that being said, the play-calling is uninspiring week in and week out. They are being completely held back from what they're capable of. You're watching a head coach refuse to trust his handsomely paid QB who has proven he can successfully chuck it down the field on a consistent basis. Love makes his mistakes sure, but there's also so much being left on the table when it comes to the way he can drive the ball down the field. All of the numbers back it up. Instead MLF calls plays like this offensive line is built to run block with the best of them and bully teams in the trenches. That does not happen. They're actually a top 10 pass blocking unit, but LaFleur doesn't care for that. It's all about the run game, even if it means the most predictable plays in history, For fucks sake he called an inside zone run out of the shotgun with the game on the line. Even better, he rushed this play in the final two minutes despite having two timeouts in his pocket.

The Packers started the game with 12 runs and 4 passes. Slow, unprepared starts are a fetish for LaFleur. And yet nothing changes.

Want some more examples of bad coaching? LaFleur opted to attempt a Lambeau Field record 64 yard field goal in the cold to try to tie the game with a kicker who has been nursing a quad injury for most of the season. That kick was NEVER going in. Why not try the hail mary and give yourself a chance? Why is McManus even kicking when you have Harvisik as your backup who has proven he can help the team win?

Another fun one, the Packers are severely limited at WR with injuries to guys like Tucker Kraft, Jayden Reed, and Matthew Golden. Why on Earth is Romeo Doubs back there returning punts? Make it make sense.

If Green Bay is going to turn this around, and the schedule doesn't do them any favors, LaFleur has to let Love turn it loose. Open up the playbook and chuck the ball down the field. All of the numbers back Love excelling in that role. It's no surprise that the offense looked its best when they got aggressive in their two minute hurry up. Just let the dude get in a rhythm for a change. If you lose because Love can't make the plays then so be it, but losing this way is fucking miserable.

Not having Kraft really hurts, but that was a game on Monday Night Football that was completely winnable. The Packers defense made big time plays to stall Philly's offense, and it all went to waste. Again. Glad we can just run back the same MLF pressers every game with nothing changing.

If this keeps up and they miss the playoffs in a tight, highly competitive NFC LaFleur will not be back. He can't be. Sure you can point to his win-loss record and defend him, but the in-game stuff, the lack of preparation for big moments, the disregard for clock management, the garbage, soft play-calling. It's run it's course and it cannot continue much longer.

P.S. I'll never understand Sirainni going for it on 4th down there with 30 seconds left. Just punt the ball and kill another 8 and you pretty much end the game. I can't believe he swung the door wide open for them like that.
