Just Another Night In Mid Major Basketball - North Texas Loses By Calling A Time Out In A Tie Game, Bad News They Had No Timeouts
Last night was rather uneventful in college hoops, which can be par for the course this earlier in the year. Reminder… I was still watching games last night but I get that casual fans weren’t. Everyone got bent out of shape with some comments on Wake Up Barstool where I simply was saying college basketball’s schedule is difficult to get attention on to casual fans. A great majority of the good non conference games (almost all) are before Thanksgiving and almost always before Christmas (see Jimmy V, the old Big 10 ACC Challenge etc). I totally get that teams are in the grind once conference play starts so it’s hard to go travel for a big one in Jan and Feb and I get that it’s good that the season starts off with a bang with Champions Classic and Maui and the Players Era, even all the way back to the Great Alaskan Shootout etc. But both things can be true, as a fan we can want big non conference games all year to help us judge teams better head to head for seeding, and we can understand that unfortunately they probably can’t do that. That’s all I was saying. I’ll be watching the games year round, if you come in Jan or Feb or around March- welcome on in. No harm no foul.
Anyway. Last night was pretty uneventful, but the great thing about this sport is every night you are going to see something stupid, silly, weird, viral or that you have never seen before. That’s the great thing about this sport. Lots of wackiness, lots of unexpected. This one we have definitely seen before obviously with Chris Webber, but man was it surprising every time it unfolds. You can see the pain on the faces of the bench the minute it happens. The guy who called the timeout had to just feel awful. But … it reminds us once again, you got to know time and score. Always know the time and score.
Also just so perfect to have the game on a court like this with Oregon State shining a light on the chaos of conference realignment.
